Browns are dedicated to energy conservation, to the preservation of natural resources, and to minimising negative impacts on the environment.
Throughout our production process, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by working closely with all our suppliers. We maintain our policy of purchasing FSC certified papers along with those containing recycled content.
Our bindery equipment is connected to a waste extraction system, paper offcuts are drawn directly into a compactor, ready for collection by our recycling partner.
The Heidelberg press ‘push to stop’ technology minimises the amount of ‘make-ready’ sheets, allowing greater efficiency compared with conventional sheet-fed or web-offset presses. Unlike traditional sheet-fed presses, our reel-fed presses are able to fully maximise the printable area, which allows for a substantial reduction in waste.
Energy-efficient LED lighting has been installed throughout the factory, along with 200 solar panels on the roof which is capable of generating 444 kilowatts per hour.
Two EV charging stations have been installed onsite.
FSC® member
We are FSC® Chain of Custody certified (FSC® C019091) and audited annually. This ensures that the FSC® materials we use and the products we sell have been checked at every stage of processing, so our customers purchasing products sold with FSC® claims can be confident that they are genuinely FSC® certified.
What is FSC®
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) runs a global forest certification system allowing consumers to identify products sourced from responsibly managed forests. It is not simply a case of planting a tree for each one that is harvested; the forests must be managed with due respect for the environment, the wildlife and the people who live and work in them. This is what makes the FSC system unique, ensuring that a forest is well-managed, from the protection of indigenous people’s rights to the methods of felling trees. The products from these forests are tracked through every stage in the supply chain and marked with FSC’s tick-tree logo.
FSC is the only wood certification scheme supported by major environmental and social organisations, such as WWF, The Woodland Trust and Greenpeace.
By choosing to purchase products that are FSC certified, you can be confident you are not damaging the world’s forests and that the product has been made with timber from responsibly managed forests, which meet the highest environmental and social standards.
Our green targets met so far…
We send over 1,000 tonnes of waste a year to our waste management partners for recycling.
